Critical care providers should know
Medical providers should bookmark the City of Chicago Public Health website as it contains useful clinical health information, alerts, news releases and emergency protocols directly from city officials. Recent emergency reports show that overall emergency room visits have been declining in Chicago. However, several hospitals actually had an increase in emergency room visit, Northwestern Memorial (20%), University of Chicago Hospital (15%) and Jackson Park Hospital (57%).
Average length of stay in a Chicago hospital was 5.7 days. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is one of the larger medical care centers in the city mostly due to some dramatic growth. From 1999 to 2003 admissions increased by 38%.
Healthy Chicago is a globally recognized city-wide health initiative that aims to make Chicago the healthiest city in the nation and sets multiple targets for key health indicators to be met by 2020. It is well known today as an industrial city, with many factories and other production-based businesses located throughout the Chicago Metropolitan Area, which stretches into neighboring states as well.
The winter months in Chicago are quite cold with a lot of rain, snow, and vicious winds. This is why the city is often referred to as “the windy city”.
Many visitors from all over the U.S. and many other countries visit here just to walk the city streets and view the amazing skyscraping buildings. There are excellent shopping destinations located throughout the city, with many Americans coming in and out regularly for shopping sprees. They also come on a regular basis for local and national events, such as beauty pageants and various sporting competitions.
There are also many golf courses located all throughout the city, which attracts some of the biggest professional golf competitions during certain times of the year. Many visitors also come regularly to attend theater productions, jazz festivals and concerts, and to enjoy the active nightlife which includes bars, parties, and a lot of comedy clubs.
