Critical care providers should know
Medical providers should bookmark the City of Chicago Public Health website as it contains useful clinical health information, alerts, news releases and emergency protocols directly from city officials. Recent emergency reports show that overall emergency room visits have been declining in Chicago. However, several hospitals actually had an increase in emergency room visit, Northwestern Memorial (20%), University of Chicago Hospital (15%) and Jackson Park Hospital (57%).
Average length of stay in a Chicago hospital was 5.7 days. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is one of the larger medical care centers in the city mostly due to some dramatic growth. From 1999 to 2003 admissions increased by 38%.
Healthy Chicago is a globally recognized city-wide health initiative that aims to make Chicago the healthiest city in the nation and sets multiple targets for key health indicators to be met by 2020.
