State acceptance in New Mexico
Physicians: We are accepted by the NM Board of Medicine because we are accredited by AMA (category 1)
Combine any of the following courses and activities for a total of 75 hours to complete your triennial CME requirements: AMA PRA category 1 credit™. Clinical courses certified by an accredited sponsor of the AMA PRA category 1 credit™ are acceptable for credit.
Nurses: We are accepted by the NM Board of Nursing because we are ANCC accredited. The ANCC is a nationally recognized organization
RNs need 30 CEs to renew their license: 16.12.2.13.L. 2.(i) NMAC
16.12.2.11 Continuing education C. Approved continuing education. To be acceptable in New Mexico, the CE activity must have been approved by a recognized approval body and must enhance the licensee’s scope of professional development as related to his/her activities in nursing. The participant must receive a certificate of attendance which validates the number of approved CE hours awarded, name of the participant, sponsoring agency, approval body and date attended. Correspondence courses and home-study programs are acceptable, if approved. (1) Recognized approval bodies for CE for nurses. (a) National or state recognized nursing organizations. (b) Other state boards of nursing. (c) New Mexico board-approved local monitoring systems.
Dentists: We are accepted by the NM Board of Dentistry because we are accredited by ADA CERP
60 hours of continuing education are required during each triennial renewal cycle, a max of 30 hrs can be online, webinars or self study
Rule pertaining to CPR: 16.5.1 - General provisions (6) Basic life support (BLS) or cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is not allowed thru a self-study course, a hands-on course is required.
Pharmacists: We are accepted by the NM Board of Pharmacy because we are ACPE accredited
16.19.4.10 Continuing pharmacy education requirements: A. ….. Continuing pharmacy education approved in New Mexico shall be limited to programs and activities offered by the accredidation council for pharmacy education (ACPE), approved provider, programs or courses approved by other state baords of pharmacy and pharmacy law programs offered by the New Mexico board of pharmacy. B. Continuing pharmacy education, certified as completed by an approved provider will be required of a registered pharmacist who applies for renewal of New Mexico registration as follows: 3.0 CEU (30 contact hours) every two years.
Childcare
All educators, staff, and management in direct contact with children must be certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with a pediatric component. From the date of hire, staff will have three months to obtain the first aid and CPR certification. All staff must maintain first aid and CPR certification with a pediatric component. Prior to licensure, at a minimum, the director will have first aid and CPR certification. (h) Online first aid and CPR training will not be approved, unless there is a hands-on component included. In-person requirements may be waived in case of an emergency.
