Critical care providers should know

The Multnomah County Health Department has a strategic plan in place for 2010 through 2014 with a vision for healthy people in healthy communities. The plan strives to create a community with a permanent “state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” One of the primary goals of the plan is to assure individuals greater control over the factors of good health. The MCHD will make efforts to be adaptive and foster an attitude of learning through the coming years as they make new discoveries of community needs.

The most recent health assessment conducted in 2015 by the Multnomah County Community Health Assessment Advisory Group and stakeholder summarized some key findings about the overall health of people living in Portland. These highlights include:

About Portland

The city of Portland was founded in 1845 and lies on a volcanic field, with one volcano nearby which is dormant for the time being but could one day become active again. With a river splitting the city right down the middle as well, this is one of the most geographically curious cities in the United States.

Though this city does not get much extreme weather, it tends to be rather dry in the summer and wet in the winter months. Other than that, it has a cheerful environment with mildly warm summers and slightly cold winters.

The extent of outdoor adventure in the city lies with state parks. Visitors as well as locals can get out in the wild and go hiking or bird watching in these parks, though they are not the most spectacular to see in the country.

There are also a wide variety of museums and historical features throughout the city, which should appease most visitors who are interested in history for a little while.

Other than that, there are no real major attractions to the city of Portland. Tourists mainly enjoy the same amusements that entertain the local population all year round, such as the local zoo and a variety of restaurants and hotels.
