About Seattle
The city of Seattle became a part of the state of Washington in 1869 and is a major seaport for the United States today. What this city is most known for is its near constant rain. While there may not be constant heavy downpours, much of the year consists of lighter rains and drizzles and a rather short summer with dryer, hotter weather.
Much of what attracts visitors to Seattle is related to the water. Since much of the city is surrounded by water from Puget Sound and Lake Washington, there are some very beautiful bays and beaches which present locals with enough sun during the warmer months to dry out from the rain and relax.
Visitors enjoy a variety of water-themed amusements from relaxing on the beach and exploring the ocean to visiting aquariums and taking cruises. Since it is such a major seaport for the country, much of the local culture surrounds the coastal waters. It is only fitting that visitors enjoy these areas as well.
Many visitors also enjoy the special transportation features of the area, which includes ferries and train rides as well as various types of tours through the city and surrounding areas.
There are also some museums and cultural festivities that take place in the city at special times during the year.
Seattle is also where Microsoft and the Internet retail giant Amazon was founded, helping to usher in a new era of technology driven businesses within the region leading to an economic revival that significantly increased the city’s population.
