Pursuant to the West Virginia legislative code of rule WV 19 CSR 11: · registered nurses are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education during each renewal period inclusive of required continuing education per SB437 and chapter 30-1-7a annually for best prescribing and drug diversion training if they prescribe, administer or dispense controlled substances, and for mental health conditions common to veterans and their families.

(10) How will I know if a CE activity is approved? The Board recognizes the West Virginia Nurses Association or any other provider accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an approved provider of continuing education programs for purposes of meeting the requirements of this rule. The Board shall consider written requests to designate other individuals, local, state or national agencies, organizations and associates as approved providers.

Blended class Classroom
Format This is a personalized and adaptive class completed online with a computer. After the class you will schedule with an instructor to complete the hands-on portion of the class. This is a traditional classroom class with an instructor.
Course completion Complete the online portion + hands-on skills session with an AHA Instructor. Contact an Training Center in your area to sign up for an instructor-led class, see above
Time The online portion of HeartCode BLS can be completed in approximately 1 to 2 hours. Time to complete the hands-on skills session varies around approixmately 60 minutes, depending on your experience level. A full BLS provider course can take 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.

CPR and AED training helps in saving lives, proved by a local school incident

On October 18, Gryffin Cavender, a Scott Teays Elementary School third-grade student experienced cardiac arrest during gym class. Prompt medical intervention by CAMC Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy by Nationwide Children’s Hospital helped. Currently he's recuperating at home after surgery. He shows profound gratitude towards the school staff and responders for their life-saving efforts.

Collective efforts of the community help save a man's life after nearly five death experiences

Harry Beatty collapsed at a community center in Romney and was revived five times. Beatty received collective intervention from bystanders, law enforcement, medical professionals, and emergency responders which helped in his miraculous recovery. He expressed profound gratitude towards the individuals and institutions for their swift actions. This event highlights the importance of early CPR and community collaboration in overcoming life-threatening emergencies.
